Teaching Resources and Hobby Research A Simple Analysis of Dark Matter in Disk Galaxies Dark matter was originally proposed to explain the rotation curves of disk galaxies. However, it appears to be no longer required. Multiple studies of 214 galaxies , and of 51 galaxies showed that their rotation curves could be fully explained by Newtonian physics and a slight increase in unseen baronic matter on the outskirts of the galaxies. Further star count maps based on Gaia observations of the Milky Way reproduced the flat rotation curve without a need for dark matter. It would however be nice to understand current research, especially as we might be watching the end of the Dark Matter paradigm. It is said that you can only claim to understand something if you can teach it to undergraduate, or even high school, students. Here is my attempt to present dark matter in un understandable and teachable form. See Dark Matter in Disk |
